Environmental sustainability across the pharmaceutical supply chain
1:35 PM - 2:05 PM
Healthcare systems contribute to approximately 5% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with up to 55% of this attributable to the pharmaceutical industry and its supply chain. As healthcare systems globally are making commitments to net zero, input from the entire pharmaceutical supply chain, including medical communications agencies, will be required to reach these targets. This session will begin with an overview of the environmental impact of healthcare systems, specifically the pharmaceutical industry. It will then cover findings from research on the climate strategies of leading pharmaceutical companies, and their implications for pharmaceutical suppliers. Ways in which medical communications professionals can reduce their own environmental footprint will be explored. The aim is to pave the way for further action, novel solutions and collaborations to advance this agenda.
