Prof Molelekwa is the founder of Gomotsegang Consultancy, a company that provides professional services such as training, capacity building, research and innovation in the fields of health and environment, since 2003. Prof Molelekwa is an Associate: Research and Innovation at Tshwane University of Technology in the Faculty of Science, from 2019 to date. This position requires him to conduct research, collaborate with other researchers locally and abroad, publish articles, and present results of his research work. He also supervises Postgraduate students (Masters and PhD) whereby he guides and motivates them to stay positive and persevere until they complete their studies. He is also transferring soft skills to his students such as scientific writing skills, communication and presentation skills.
Prof Molelekwa has written book chapters and has also published his research work in peer reviewed journals and presented at local and international conferences. Prof Molelekwa has three patents to his name, the first one is the method for the development of low-cost membranes from plastic waste for the purification of drinking water in small rural communities; and the second one is the technology for energy efficiency at household, industrial and municipal level. The third one is the method for the production of low cost and environmentally friendly briquettes from waste biomass to fulfil the energy needs of low-income communities, while at the same time addressing the challenges of waste management at municipal level, and within the agricultural sector
Prof Molelekwa has worked for both the public (provincial government and municipalities) and private sector, including the United Nations’ Basel Convention Regional Training Centre, focusing on Hazardous Waste Management Training in Africa. He lectured various courses, including: Epidemiology, Water, Air Quality and Waste Management at Tshwane University of Technology between 1998 and 2005 (full and part-time). He has also been involved in community education and awareness raising programmes in collaboration with various municipalities and private sector companies. He has given health talks once a week on Motsweding FM (SABC radio station) about COVID-19 related matters from April 2020 to March 2022. The station has just over 2,5 million listeners per week.
Prof Molelekwa is an experienced project manager (>20 years) and has successfully managed more than fifty projects (50), locally and abroad.
