Jessamy Bagenal

Jessamy Bagenal is a physician and senior executive editor at The Lancet, where she sits on the senior leadership group. Jessamy qualified from medicine in 2009 from UCL having intercalated in medical anthropology. She spent 10 years training to be a general and breast in the NHS. In 2015 she won a National Clinical Director’s Fellowship and worked with arm’s length government bodies in the UK as well as being a clinical editor at The BMJ. In 2018 she took up a full-time role at The Lancet. Jessamy completed a part-time MPH at LSHTM in 2023

Kelly Soldavin

Kelly Soldavin is a Senior Editor for the publisher Taylor & Francis, managing the Expert Research portfolio of Medicine & Health journals and contributing to publication development, including the launch of Plain Language Summaries of Publications (PLSPs). She is passionate about patient collaboration in publishing, plain language summaries and other enhanced content, accessibility and discoverability of publications, and the use of generative AI to complement all facets of manuscript development and publication. Kelly writes and peer reviews articles on these topics and speaks at conferences and webinars, including those sponsored by the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP), European Medical Writers Association (EMWA), and Counsel of Science Editors. She is a member of the Open Pharma AI Discussion Forum and Plain Language Summary & Discoverability Working Group, secretary for the ISMPP Board of Trustees, and Co-chair of the ISMPP Social Media & Web-based Metrics Committee. 

Annette Flanagin

Annette Flanagin, RN, MA, FAAN, is Executive Managing Editor and Vice President of Editorial Operations, for JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) and the JAMA Network, and Executive Editor, JAMAevidence. Before joining JAMA, Ms Flanagin held editorial positions with other journals published for health care professionals, and before that, she practiced cardiology nursing. She is a graduate of Georgetown University, with a BS in nursing and an MA in English Literature. Ms Flanagin is Past President of the Council of Science Editors (CSE) and has been honored with the CSE Award for Meritorious Achievement and the John P. McGovern Award for preeminent contribution to medical communication by the American Medical Writers Association. She serves as the Executive Director of the International Congresses on Peer Review and Scientific Publication and as Co-Director of the African Journal Partnership Program and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. Ms Flanagin has co-developed a number of guidelines and policies to guide authors, editors, and publishers in scientific publication and is a committee member and author of the AMA Manual of Style: A Guide for Authors and Editors. She participates in research, lectures, and publishes on issues related to scientific publication for authors, editors, and publishers.
